About the event
This will be our final swap for the year, thank you to everyone who has come along and supported the seed bank, we really do value your support. It's a good time to take stock of what seed you have and plan for the coming season so if you do have spare seeds, please do consider donating them to the bank. We would also like to encourage everyone to save seed as it is so important for us to have open pollinated, organic and localized seeds as a resource in our community, from an environmental point of view and also in terms of seed and food sovereignty. Growing and producing our own food is also directly linked to our health and well-being. To this end we will also be having a half an hour seed saving workshop from 11.30 till 12.
It is harvest time so we will also have a focus on surplus produce; if you have a glut of anything to swap please bring it along, surprisingly we do not have many courgettes this year! but we do have an amazing crop of small squashes that we have grown from plants that were donated to the swap in the summer which we'll be bringing along.
As we head into next year we will be continuing to develop the seed bank to include more information on the collected seed and to provide information on seed saving and sowing. The swaps have also proved to be a great networking event for local growers and has developed as a social hub where growers can discuss all things growing related and swap growing tips, I for one have learnt all sorts of useful information and this element is an intrinsic part of the event. If you would like to get involved with the development of the Seed Bank in anyway please do get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
