Well Dressing gets silver medal!

Updated: May 11, 2022

This year Malvern Green Space joined in the annual May Day Well Dressing event.

A group of us dressed Stocks Well on North Malvern Road. We chose the wonderful poetry books "The Lost Words" and "The Lost Spells", by nature poet Robert Macfarlane and illustrator Jackie Morris, for our inspiration, taking the poems about Trees as our focus: ‘I am a world cutter, I am a maker of life. Drinker of rain, breaker of rocks, caster of shade, eater of sun’.

The Lost Words has been described as a "protest at the loss of the natural world around us, as well as a celebration of the creatures and plants with which we share our lives, in all their wonderful, characterful glory."

Everyone came together on the Friday evening and as if by magic, a display of trees, plants, flowers, logs and butterflies was created (along with Jane’s stunning painted clay birds, see below). The collages were made together with children, during the day we spent at the Festival of Ideas a few months ago.

This was a great opportunity for us to be seen as part of the community through an art space - and we won a silver award too!!!
